Job description
Software Engineer (Backend; Wholesale)
In short
On’s Wholesale business operates at a significant global scale. In 2025, it generated CHF 1.75 billion in net sales, representing 58.2% of On’s total revenue.
Our Wholesale technology teams build and evolve the systems that support On’s B2B business, including commerce, sell-in, merchandising and sales-enablement capabilities.
We are looking for a Backend Engineer who wants to understand the problems we are solving, not just implement requirements. You will work closely with engineers, Product and business stakeholders to build reliable systems, shape solutions and continuously improve how we deliver software.

Your Mission
Build the right solutions
Understand the customer and business problems behind the work, and help shape solutions and delivery plans based on user value, data and technical context.
Lead solution design for complex problems, breaking them down into manageable pieces and driving consequential technical decisions within the team.
Use data, customer insights and technical context to challenge assumptions and help make good product and engineering decisions.
Work closely with frontend, mobile and Product to deliver end-to-end outcomes rather than isolated backend components.
Own what you build
Design, build and operate reliable and scalable backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, Postgres, REST APIs, GraphQL, and streaming platforms.
Take ownership from design through rollout and production, including testing, monitoring, operational risks and resolving issues when they occur.
Drive pragmatic technical decisions with the team, balancing user value, delivery speed, quality and long-term maintainability.
Proactively identify problems, dependencies and risks, and work to unblock yourself and the team rather than waiting for direction.
Improve how we engineer
Improve the team's systems and ways of working by removing recurring friction, unnecessary complexity and manual work, and improving developer productivity.
Raise the team's engineering standards through design discussions, code reviews, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
Work with distributed systems and cloud-native infrastructure on GCP, Kubernetes and Docker.
Constructively challenge existing solutions and ways of working when you see a better approach.
Use AI as part of engineering
Use AI-assisted development as a normal part of your workflow where it improves speed, quality or understanding.
Experiment with new tools and approaches, share what works, and help the team develop effective practices around AI-assisted engineering.
Your story
You have strong backend engineering experience and have designed, built and operated complex production systems.
You are proficient with Node.js, NestJS, TypeScript, Postgres or other relational DB, REST APIs, GraphQL and streaming platforms.
You have solid experience with relational databases, data modelling and APIs.
You understand distributed systems and have experience with cloud and containerised environments.
You have a product mindset and care about why something should be built, not only how to build it.
You show strong ownership and autonomy, create clarity when things are ambiguous, and make progress without waiting for detailed instructions.
You form your own point of view, challenge decisions constructively, and commit once a direction is agreed.
You improve the systems, tools and ways of working around you, not just the features you are currently delivering.
You have practical experience with AI-assisted software development and actively look for better ways to use it.
Bonus points
Experience with event-driven systems such as Kafka, Pub/Sub or BullMQ.
Experience with MikroORM or similar ORM tools.
Experience with e-commerce or B2B platforms.
