Senior IT Technician

Motorway · Brighton

On-siteSeniorPosted 7 Aug 2026

Job description

About Motorway Motorway is the UK's largest online car-selling platform. We connect private sellers directly with over 8,000 dealers nationwide. Our online platform helps sellers achieve great prices for their cars while giving dealers fast, reliable access to the stock they want for their dealerships. Founded in 2017, our award-winning, technology-led approach has redefined the experience of selling a car. Motorway is backed by some of the world’s leading technology investors, having raised £143 million in Series C funding. This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing scale-up at a crucial phase of growth and help change an industry for the better. About the role This is a senior, hands-on role in our IT team. You'll be the person colleagues turn to when something needs solving properly, not just logged and passed on. We run a modern, cloud-first setup, so the job stretches well beyond the helpdesk queue, covering the full employee IT lifecycle, keeping core systems reliable, and taking on meatier project work alongside day-to-day support. We are looking for someone who notices what could work better and pushes to fix it. Key Responsibilities Act as a first point of contact for technical problems across the business, keeping people informed with clear, timely updates. Get to the root cause of issues rather than papering over them, so colleagues have the kit and know-how to do their jobs well. Bring your own ideas on where our IT setup could improve, and see them through from suggestion to implementation. Juggle the daily flow of support requests against your commitments on longer-running IT projects. Keep sharpening your own technical skills and stay on top of new tools and approaches. Act as the escalation point (3rd line) and go-to expert for the wider IT Service team. Coach less experienced colleagues so the team's overall expertise grows, closing knowledge gaps as you spot them. Spot patterns behind recurring problems early, and find ways to cut down ticket resolution times. Requirements At least 4 years working in IT support or helpdesk roles, including time as an escalation point, and confident supporting both macOS and Windows in a business setting. Sharp troubleshooting instincts and a habit of owning a problem end-to-end rather than handing it off. A clear, patient communicator who can walk non-technical colleagues through an issue without leaning on jargon. Hands-on experience with a modern, cloud-first stack, or a genuine drive to get there, including: Identity and device management - SSO, MDM (Jamf, Intune), Google Workspace and similar. Infrastructure and tooling - networking, AV systems, cloud telephony, Zendesk and Atlassian (Jira). Self-sufficient day to day, but just as ready to pitch in and support the wider team. A real curiosity about technology and an appetite to keep learning and improving how things run. Networking know-how is a plus, but not a dealbreaker. Benefits We've got your back, in life's biggest moments and the everyday ones too. Competitive salary Equity scheme - we all share in Motorway’s success 25 days holiday Sea-front office with bi-weekly massages and free snacks Private medical insurance via BUPA Life assurance Pension scheme (we contribute 5%) Enhanced family leave (e.g. 26 weeks full pay for maternity or adoption) 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme EV leasing scheme Cycle to work scheme Nursery salary sacrifice scheme 1 paid volunteering day a year Find Jobs in United Kingdom on Arbeitnow
