Backend Engineer

About the Role Join a small, high-caliber founding team at a pre-seed AI/fintech startup building the next generation of AI-native operations infrastructure for private markets. You'll own core backend systems that power fund accounting, reporting, reconciliation, and treasury automation — with a deep focus on permissions, auditability, traceability, and observability across both hosted and self-hosted deployments. This is a high-ownership, high-impact role for an engineer who thrives in early-stage environments and wants to shape foundational architecture from the ground up. What You'll Do Own and manage backend infrastructure for permissions, auditability, traceability, and observability Design and oversee deployment architectures for hosted and self-hosted environments using infrastructure-as-code tools Enhance system reliability, performance, and security in production Partner closely with product teams to ship features while maintaining high quality standards Drive AI-native development practices to enable rapid, high-quality releases What We're Looking For Required: 1–6 years of backend engineering experience with a strong emphasis on permissions systems, auditability, traceability, and observability Hands-on experience with distributed systems and modern observability toolchains (metrics, logs, tracing) Comfortable working in a small founding team — strong ownership, initiative, and cross-functional coordination are essential Eligible to work in Germany and willing to work on-site in Berlin Tech stack in use: TypeScript, NestJS, PostgreSQL, Prisma, Inngest, Mastra, React, Tailwind Nice to have: Background in fintech, private markets, fund accounting, or enterprise SaaS Experience at companies operating in the AI/ML or financial operations space Compensation & Benefits Salary: €70,000 – €110,000 per year, depending on experience Early-stage equity opportunity Direct impact on product direction and architecture at a founding-team level Location Berlin, Germany — on-site Candidates must be eligible to work in Germany; no visa sponsorship available Find more English Speaking Jobs in Germany on Arbeitnow
